Why Do Players Buy Magic Proxies for Testing?

Many players buy magic proxies because they want to test an idea before spending heavily on original cards. This can be particularly useful in Commander where changing a few expensive pieces can significantly alter how a deck performs. I prefer testing several games before making permanent upgrades. Players should still be clear that proxies are proxies and should check local playgroup or tournament policies before bringing them to organized games.
